A bus owners' union has urged the government to proceed with the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement which would see USD 80 million worth funds being allocated to public transport.
The MCC agreement with the US, through which the government was expected to receive a grant of USD 450 million, was put on hold after several request were made to the government to review the agreement
Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) President Gemunu Wijeratne, during a news conference yesterday (Dec 22) claimed that the country is losing Rs 1 billion owing to traffic congestion.
"There is a possibility of establishing an efficient bus service through the MCC agreement," Wijeratne stated.
