Chinese woman caught with nearly 250 gemstones

A 26-year-old Chinese woman was apprehended by Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) last night while trying to smuggle out 247 gemstones. The total value of the stones is Rs 11.64 million. 

Customs officials who conducted the inquiry imposed a fine of Rs 300,000 on the woman while the gemstones were confiscated. She was released after the penalty was paid, Sri Lanka Customs said.
