A SriLankan airlines flight has been grounded in an airport in Indonesia due to a technical defect leaving 93 passengers stranded, an official said.
The flight had left Colombo in the early hours of Thursday to its destination in Singapore, but had to be landed at the Medan Airport in Indonesia.
The technical team at the airport had turned down a request to carry out the repairs as it would take long time.
Meanwhile attempts provide hotel accommodation to the passengers at the hotels there too were delayed as the Immigration officials had rejected permission to allow them to leave the airport. However due to diplomatic intervention eventually permission has been granted.
SriLankan airlines was due to send a backup flight, but due to delays in obtaining landing permission there had been further delay to provide relief to the stranded passengers.
The airlines is sending a technical crew as well to carryout the repairs.
Meanwhile passengers on the flight had protested about the delay/
