CMC Commissioner removed

Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Commissioner V.K.A. Anura has been removed from his post by Western Province Governor K.C. Logeswaran. 

The decision has been taken considering the recommendations made by the Presidential Committee appointed to inquire into the Meethotamulla garbage dump collapse. 

The committee, chaired by retired High Court Judge Chandradasa Nanayakkara was handed over to President Maithripala Sirisena last month.

The Committee report revealed that there was an unusual increase of the expenses paid for the external organizations for the waste disposal process of the Kolonnawaa and Meethotamulla areas during the period of 2015 -2016.

The expenses showed a gradual increase of allocations by the CMC and according to the statistics in 2014 the CMC had paid 64 million rupees and 182 million rupees and 232 million rupees respectively in 2015 and 2016.
