Non-cabinet minister Harsha de Silva has said that the remarks made by Road Development State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake, over the alleged usage of cocaine by Parliamentarians was found to be "unsubstantiated" by the committee appointed to probe the allegations.
Mr De Silva taking to his official Twitter handle following the UNP's working committee meeting that was held earlier today (Feb 26) said that the claims lacked evidence
However, he noted that the list of accused Parliamentarians and ministers which was read out at the meeting and did not include any current UNP MPs, has been sent to the Criminal Invesitgations Department (CID) for further action.
The United National Party (UNP)appointed a four-member Committee to probe the allegations levelled by State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake that certain MP and Ministers were consumers of cocaine.
The Committee was headed by Public Enterprise and Kandyan Heritage Minister Lakshman Kiriella. State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne, Prof. Ashu Marasinghe and Presidents Counsel Nissanka Nanayakkara were also part of the Committee.
