Constable arrested for demanding bribe from a couple
A Police Constable has been arrested yesterday (Oct 4) for soliciting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a couple in Moratuwa this week.
The constable had forcefully obtained the bribe by promising he would not take action against a couple who had been behaving inappropriately in a car, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
It is believed that the constable, attached to the Mount Lavinia Police Division, had inititally demanded Rs 50,000 from the couple.
The Western Province (South) Crimes Division had apprehended the constable after an investigation into the incident.
Further investigations are underway.
