Members of the Presidential Task Force on Dengue Control will be summoned in January on a date to be announced by President Maithripala Sirisena, a Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Ministry spokesman was quioted as saying.
The spokesman said the decision was taken on the instructions of Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne considering the increase in dengue cases.
According to reports a special meeting will be held at the Epidemiology Unit tomorrow under the patronage of Dr. Mahipala to discuss the new challenges identified during the special three day dengue eradication programme implemented in the Western Province last week and to discuss the future actions on dengue eradication, he said.
A total of 28,171 dengue cases have been reported from all parts of the country with over 55 deaths. The highest number of dengue cases was reported from the Colombo district which is 6,338. A total of 2,542 dengue cases was reported from the Colombo Municipal Council area during the same period, he added.
