Additional Elections Commissioner M.M.Mohammed was quoted by the govenment news portal as saying the official polling cards for the general elections will be handed over to the postal department on July 29. The Postal Department will commence distribution of poll cards from July 30 to August 10 and August 2 and 9 have been declared as special distribution dates. The registry for the postal voting is also being prepared. The teachers of government schools will be able to cast the postal votes on August 3rd while other State officers who have applied for the postal voting can cast their votes on August 5 and 6.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
