Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara has issued directives to launch a probe over alleged attack by police officials on a group of female protesters in Eppawala on Saturday, police said. The police Chief also directed North-Central DIG to take disciplinary action against those police officials who attacked the protesters.
The move came after, a video went viral in social media sites portraying police officials allegedly attacked female protesters near a temple in Eppawala against a priest. The North-Central Province DIG is tasked to carry out the probe on the incident and report back to IGP.
