Former Development Lotteries Board (DLB) Chairman Sarana Gunawardena, convicted of misappropriating public funds, was sentenced to three years in prison today (Jan 7).
Gunawardena, the one-time deputy minister of Petroleum Industries was also handed a fine of Rs 300,000 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
The defendant had been accused of committing the fraud while purchasing a vehicle during his tenure as DLB Chairman.
