An excise department officer was arrested yesterday (Nov 14) for soliciting a bribe of Rs 200,000 to alter charges against a suspect.
Bribery Commission officials had made the arrest within the premises of the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court, SSP Priyantha Chandrasiri, the Bribery Commission's Investigations Director said.
He added that the excise officer had accepted the bribe by offering to charge a suspect over the possession of cannabis instead of a narcotic identified as 'Ice' with which he had been nabbed.
The apprehended officer is attached to the excise department's office in Battaramulla.
