Five suspects were arrested over a sand mining racket that was operating in Ariyalai, Jaffna on Saturday.
A tense situation had arisen when the suspects had attacked Special Task Force (STF) personnel who had made the arrest.
However, STF personnel had managed to apprehend the suspects while also seizing a tractor and two motorcycles which were used in the operation.
The suspects were produced before courts today (Mar 17).
