Five persons have died in three motor vehicle accidents in the Puttalam, Akkarayan Kulam, and Ambanpola areas, police said.
Two individuals had succumbed to death in Puttalam after their car had crashed on to a tree since the driver had lost control of the vehicle. In a separate incident, a motorcyclist who had collided with a tractor in Akkarayan Kulam had also died due to the mishap.
Meanwhile, two youths on a motorcycle who had crashed on to a tipper truck in Ambanpola had also died, police noted. According to the Police Spokesman's office, the accident had occurred at around 10:25 pm yesterday (Jul 14).
The victims who were heading towards Kurunegala had collided with the tipper which had been parked on the same side of the road. They had died after being admitted to the Puttalam hospital.
Police have identified the victims as two 25-year old residents of Kottukachchiya. Their remains lie at the Puttalam hospital.
