Former Prisons Commissioner Emil Ranjan Lamahewa who was remanded over the alleged killing of 27 Welikada Prison inmates in 2012 was released on bail today (Mar 04).
This was announced when the suspect was produced before the Appeal Court's two-member bench of Justices Shiran Gunaratne and Nishshanka Karunaratne.
While delivering the verdict, the trial-at-bar had released Mr. Lamahewa under a cash bail of Rs 100,000 and two personal bails of Rs 1 million each. Further the judge bench also requested him to handover his passport to court.
