Four people were killed while five others were injured in a shooting that took place at the Kaduwela fishing port in Tangalle at 7:15 am today (Dec 25).
According to the police, the victims were shot by two individuals who had arrived on a motorcycle.
Police suspect that the shooting had taken place as a result of a personal feud between two fishermen groups.
A T-56 gun and a pistol are suspected to have been used in order to carry out the shooting.
The remains of three victims lie at the Tangalle hospital while the remains of the fourth victim lies at the Nakulugama hospital. Meanwhile, those injured in the shooting are currently receiving treatment at the Tangalle hospital.
It is reported that no suspects have been arrested so far in connection with the incident. Tangalle Police are conducting further investigations in this regard.
