Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarians that there is no need to announce the party's presidential candidate immediately since the date of the elections has not been announced yet.
He had made these remarks while addressing a meeting with UNP parliamentarians at Temple Trees yesterday (Jun 17) night.
During the meeting, Mr. Wickremesinghe had reportedly told the MPs that it was not the correct time to discuss regarding the presidential elections since the promises of the government have not been fulfilled yet.
He had pointed out that the government had faced a setback due to the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
Accordingly, the Prime Minister had urged all UNP parliamentarians to start working in order to fulfill the promises made by the government in 2015 before discussing plans for the polls.
