Presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa today (Oct 21) accused the present government of neglecting national security, citing it as a reason which resulted in the Easter Sunday attacks which took place six months ago today (Oct 21).
“We implemented a security plan to not only end terrorism but ensure that it does not raise its head again,” the former Defence Secretary told a rally in Embilipitiya.
Rajapaksa, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) candidate pointed out that the country has lost its security under the current government.
He alleged that the current government had destroyed intelligence units by imprisoning its officers on “absurd charges”, while also destroying the mentality of the tri-forces and the police.
The SLPP candidate vowed that he would fulfil his duties to the fullest if voted into power, recalling that he had functioned similarly under the previous government.
Rajapaksa pointed out that he not only played an active role in defeating the LTTE, but also ensuring the rapid development of Colombo and other areas.
Accordingly, he promised to fulfil his responsibility of creating a safe and secure country under his rule.
