Five provinces are expected to receive up to 150 milimetres of rain today as the North East Monsoon strengthens further across the country after making landfall this week.
The Western, Northern, North-Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, and the Trincomalee and Anuradhapura Districts are expected to experience rains between 100 and 150 mm, the Meteorological Department said.
Fairly heavy showers up to about 100 mm are likely in the Southern and Uva provinces and Batticaloa and Ampara districts, the weather forecast read.
