High Court imposes death sentence on convicted cocaine dealer

News

The Colombo High Court today (Jan 17) imposed a death sentence on a suspect who was convicted of distributing cocaine across the country.

Issuing the verdict, High Court Judge Gihan Kulathunga, said that the country is in a pathetic state due to the use of narcotics. He emphasized that severe punishments must be meted out against drug criminals who are found guilty of committing such acts.

The suspect who was found guilty has been identified as Nalin Sharukh Kulathunga, a resident of Kohuwela.

Hearing of the case commenced following a complaint filed by the Attorney General against the suspect for the possession and transportation of cocaine weighing over 62 grams in 2012.

Officials of the Police Narcotice Bureau had taken the suspect into custody while he was in possession of the narcotic substance.
