The Walana Anti-Vice Squad has busted an illegal vehicle assembly racket in Dambokka, Pothuhera. Police Media Unit said officers from the squad had raided the location following a tip-off.
Police found that the site was being used to assemble vehicles using illegally imported spare parts. The vehicles were then being sold on the market.
A car and a jeep that had been illegally assembled in this fashion were taken into police custody at the location. A 52-year-old suspect from Boyagane was arrested along with the vehicles for allegedly operating the vehicles assembly racket.
The suspect was produced before the Polgahawela Magistrate's Court yesterday, where he was ordered to be remanded in custody till August 2.
Pothuhera police are investigating.
