President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today (Dec 23) instructed authorities to expedite relief measures for families displaced by the inclement weather.
He made these remarks after visiting areas affected by the floods in the Anuradhapura district, the President’s Office said in a statement.
The statement noted that more than 1500 families residing in 10 out of 22 divisional secretariats in Anuradhapura have been affected by floods since December 20.
Meanwhile, President Rajapaksa will chair a special meeting at the Polonnaruwa District Secretariat regarding the relief efforts in the Polonnaruwa District.
The President is also expected to visit the welfare centre in Elahera which is currently sheltering flood-hit victims.
