The Fisheries Department has launched a search for a local fishing vessel with five fishermen on board which has been reported missing since December 10, an official said.
The Department has alerted international agencies and other vessels to seek any information of the vessel which had gone out from Negombo.
The vessel named as 'Kavisha Duwa' had last communicated with the family members on December 10.
Though they are believed to have drifted towards Maldives, other countries such as Bangladesh and Myanmar too have been alerted.
