IUSF Convener released on bail

Convener of the Inter University Students' Federation (IUSF) Lahiru Weerasekara was granted bail by the Colombo High Court today. 

He was arrested on June 23 along with several others while leaving a press conference in Maradana. Weerasekara's arrest was in connection with an incident on June 21, when a large group of university students forcibly entered the premises of the Health Ministry, where they allegedly caused damage to public property. 

He was produced in court and was remanded till July 5, before being further remanded after being produced in court on several occassions.  

Earlier, several university students who had been in remand custody over the incident were also released on bail.
