The Kandy Esala Perahera got underway today with the traditional 'Kap' planting ceremony (‘Kap situweema’) at the auspicious time of 5.10am at ‘Sathara Devale’ in Kandy, Sri Dalada Maligawa.
Five ‘devala’ processions will be held subsequent to the ‘Kap’ planting ceremony.
The first ‘Kumbal perahera’ will parade the streets on August 5 and will continue till August 9. ‘Randoli Perahera’ will parade the streets from August 10-14.
