Former Prison Superintendent Emil Ranjan Lamahewa has been further remanded until January 27 over the murder of 27 inmates at the Welikada prison in 2012.
The remand order was issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate when the case was taken up for hearing today (Jan 08).
A revision bail application has been filed at the Court of Appeal seeking bail for the accused.
Meanwhile, Police Inspector Neomal Rangajeewa, the first suspect in the case has been accused of levelling threats via Facebook against journalist Kasun Pusswela who had reported the incident. This was informed before court by his Attorney who informed court that a complaint has been lodged at the Police in this regard.
Mr. Rangajeewa who was arrested in connection with the Welikada incident in 2012 was granted bail by the Appeal Court on September 25 last year.
Additional Magistrate Isuru Netticumara had instructed the police to launch an investigation if a complaint was lodged as stated by the Attorney.
