Lasantha Amarasekara, Managing Director of the troubled Lankaputhra Bank has been sacked by its controversial Chairman and board for “general inefficiency” with effect from Tuesday.
The letter of termination was sent to Mr. Amarasekera’s residence yesterday as he was on leave. Recently the bank’s Chairman Lasantha Goonewardena came in for criticism since his own appointment had been invalidated by the Central Bank’s Supervision Department.
However, following a number of incidents within the establishment itself, the bank’s newly instituted Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya, a UNP trade union, had made a presentation to the board on the general inefficiency of the Managing Director. (Sunimalee)
