The number of accidents at the dawn of the New Year has decreased by three percent when compared to last year, officials at the Colombo General Hospital (CGH) said.
The CGH said that only 439 individuals are currently receiving treatment for injuries due to accidents when compared to 512 cases which were reported last year.
119 individuals have been admitted for injuries sustained due to road accidents while 44 patients are being treated for injuries sustained indoors, Coordinator at the CGH, Pushpa Ramyani De Soysa said.
She added that 37 individuals have been admitted for accidents caused due to violent incidents while citing that this number too had gone down in comparison to last year's figures.
Further, Ms Soysa said 11 individuals had sustained injuries for carelessly handling fireworks.
