Mahindananda Aluthgamage released on bail

Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who had been in remand custody on money laundering charges, was released on bail today after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court. 

He had been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on September 15 when he went to give a statement. 

The CID has informed court that its investigations had revealed that the former Sports Minister had purchased a house on Kynsey Road in Colombo by spending Rs.27 million allegedly earned through unlawful means.
