The child, who is infected with COVID-19 virus and went missing from the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Angoda last night, has been found from Eheliyagoda area this morning (20).
A COVID-positive woman, aged 25 years, had escaped the IDH along with her two-year-old son at around 9.10 pm yesterday.
Police reports revealed that the mother, who had handed over her child to a relative residing in Eheliyagoda area after fleeing the hospital, is currently on the run.
The child has been taken into the custody of the police and necessary arrangements are being made to readmit him to the IDH.
According to the police, the woman in question is allegedly linked to large-scale drug racketeering.
A search operation is underway to locate the escapee, the police said further.
