Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa who arrived at the Criminal Investigations Department this afternoon (January 23) was questioned for a few hours regarding the VIP assassination plot involving President Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
Taking to his official Twitter account Mr Rajapaksa said he was questioned based on information provided by the Indian national who is in remand custody. He added that he hoped an independent investigation would be conducted into this as it concerned national security and diplomatic investigations.
Previously the CID informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate that investigations conducted so far have revealed that Thomas (the Indian national) who is in remand custody had met MPs Namal Rajapaksa, Wimal Weerawansa and his wife at their residences.
Further, the CID informed court that they expected to record statements from Wimal Weerawansa and his wife Shashi Weerawansa.
