Trincomalee district Parliamentarian Susantha Punchinilame who is alleged to have assaulted a resident of the Agbopura area in Trincomalee, is to be produced to courts regarding this incident following the permission of the Speaker, Police today (Jan 23) informed the Kanthale Magistrate.
The case was taken up for hearing after a complaint was filed at the Kanthale Police by an individual identified as H.M.Wimalaratne who had claimed that he was assaulted by MP Punchinilame along with his two security officers.
Police said that the Parliamentarian and his security officers had filed a separate complaint claiming that they were assulted by Mr. Wimalaratne.
Accordingly, the Trincomalee resident was produced before the Kanthale Magistrates Court by the Police today. He was later released on a surety bail of Rs 100,000 by Kantale Magistrate Thiyani Thenabandu.
Meanwhile, the two security officers of Mr. Punchinilame's security division who were also alleged to have been involved in the incident were released on two surety bails worth Rs 100,000 each.
Police informed court that they would inform Speaker Karu Jayasuriya as per the provisions of the Police circular in order to produce Mr. Punchinilame before court.
