Cabinet approval has been granted to present a new Counter Terrorism Bill to Parliament by abolishing the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
A proposal to this effect had been put forward by Ministers Thilak Marapana, Patali Champika Ranawaka, and Thalatha Athukorale.
The new Counter-Terrorism Bill is to be drafted after studying the acts relating to terrorism in countries such as UK and India.
Political sources said that emphasis would be drawn on cyber-terrorism through the proposed Bill.
