The CID today (Jan 04) informed court that there was no evidence to prove that an assault was carried out by Minister Arjuna Ranatunga at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) last year.
Minister Arjuna Ranatunga was arrested and subsequently released on bail over a shooting incident which took place at the premises of the CPC in October last year.
Accordingly, Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne had questioned the CID regarding the grounds on which the former Petroleum Minister was arrested without any evidence.
Therefore, the Magistrate had instructed the CID to produce sufficient evidence if there were any during the next hearing of the case.
The case will be taken up for hearing on February 01.
