Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will give a give a detailed reply outlining the Government’s position with regards to the controversy that has arisen due to a speech made by the Chief Minister of the Northern Province C.V.Wigneswaran in Jaffna recently, , Parliament as informed today.
Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella said this in response to a query raised by UPFA MP Dinesh Gunawardena who alleged that Mr.Wigneswaran’s statement is a violation of the Constitution and the Government must condemn it and inform the House what action would be taken against him.
Mr. Kiriellla said that Mr. Wigneswaran has subsequently denied making that statement and it is unfair to raise it once he has denied it but added that the Prime Minister would give a detailed reply later.
Meanwhile Leader of the Opposition and TNA Parliamentary group leader R.Sampanthan said that Mr. Wigneswaran’s speech appeared in both the print and the electronic media and he believes that all the things that were attributed to the NPC Chief Minister were not said by him.
He said Mr.Wigneswaran has subsequently denied some of the things attributed to him.
“He is a very responsible person. He is the elected Chief Minister of the NPC, and he is a retried Supreme Court and when he says he did not make the statement attributed to him, one should verify it and try to get to the true position. I am of the views that many of the attributed to him were not made by him and not contained in his speech,”Mr.Sampanthan said.
