CID officials today (Jan 19) arrested an individual connected to the shooting at the Kudawella harbour which left four dead and eight injured on December 25 last year.
The arrest was a result of investigations that were carried out by ten police teams which were deployed for this purpose under the directives of IGP Pujith Jayasundara, Police Spokesman S.P. Ruwan Gunasekara said.
The suspect has been identified as a 33-year old resident of Nakulugama by the name of J.R.D.R. Kumudu Kumara.
Police had also confiscated a nine millimetre pistol which is suspected to have been used in the shooting. In addition, police also nabbed a Magazine which held eight rounds of ammunition.
Accordingly, police will produce the suspect before the Tangalle Magistrates Court and request for an interim order to conduct further investigations.
The Police Spokesman said that further investigations to apprehend those involved in aiding and abetting the shooting are currently underway
