Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has said that the Independence Day of any country - which is a result of its freedom fighters, is vital for an advanced and proud society.
Issuing his Independence Day message, the Speaker said that it is important to adopt a optimistic approach to combat the challenges faced by the entire Sri Lankan society.
"Creative plans must be implemented to uplift the country to greater heights in terms of the economy. These plans must be crafted on the foundation of nationalism, religion, and reconcilation" he added.
Further, he said that elements which destroy the peace of humans have existed throughout history. He explained that these entities have either attempted to torture people, suppress them or gain undue priviledged for themselves.
Mr. Jayasuriya also emphasised that the the time has now come to launch an extensive operation with the assisstance of the people to eradicate the usage of narcotics.
