Police have so far arrested 2036 persons for violating the curfew imposed on Friday (20) to minimise the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in the country.
Police Media Unit stated that the 2036 suspects were taken into custody during the period beginning from 6.00pm on Friday (20) to 9.00pm today (23).
A total of 501 vehicles including motorbikes and three-wheelers used by the suspects were also taken into custody during this period, police added.
The vast majority of those arrested were taken into custody for loitering on the road during curfew hours. However, some were also arrested for drinking liquor together at a playground, traveling in vehicles, engaging in unruly behaviour on the road while under the influence of liquor and for engaging in trade.
The respective police stations will take legal action against the arrested suspects, police added.
