The cabinet of ministers have approved the development of the Kankasanthurai harbour which will be carried out with the assistance of India at a cost of USD 45.27 million.
The proposal was put forward by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies, Economic Affairs Resettlements and Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training and Skills Development.
Accordingly, the harbour is to be equipped with the necessary infrastructure and other utility facilities under the Kankesanthurai Habour Development Project.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, Minster Sagala Ratnayake said that the Kankasanthurai harbour would be transformed into a port that can handle general cargo.
Minster Ratnayake and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe are expected to visit the location today (Feb 13).
Meanwhile, cabinet approval was also granted to reconstruct the Ayyanar Kovil located in that area.
