Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today (Jun 04) lamented over the failure of the media to give due credit to the security forces who have been working tirelessly since the Easter Sunday bombings.
Addressing an event at the BMICH this evening, the Prime Minister said that security forces have accomplished a great feat by eliminating IS-backed terrorism from the country within a month.
"Countries such as England, Australia, and US have told me that no other country has been able to obtain intelligence information concerning terrorism in a swift manner," Mr. Wickremesinghe noted.
He also recalled that security forces, on his instructions, had apprehended suspected terrorists on the day of the Easter Sunday attacks at the cost of losing the lives of three police officers.
The main suspects who are believed to have been involved in the carnage were arrested within a week, the Prime Minister said.
"However, the media does not highlight these efforts and given due credit to the security forces who have swiftly arrested potential terrorists," Mr. Wickremesinghe lamented.
