A special unit for investigating financial crimes, set up by the Police Department was launched today and commenced operations this morning, local media reported. The unit was launched today under the patronage of Minister John Amarathunga. The division consists of a deputy inspector General of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police, an Assistant Superintendent of Police and a group of officers. The unit functions under the direct supervision of Inspector General of Police.
