Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today said he wanted more time to take legal action against those accused of corruption in the previous government. ‘Give me more time’, to take action as there are a large number of cases and all these cases have to be done in accordance with the law, Mr Wickremesinghe told newspaper editors and heads of electronic media during a meeting at the Temple Trees. He said the Bribery Commission has requested for 100 more policemen to assist in investigations. He said in addition to the Bribery Commission, there are several other mechanisms established to carryout investigations regarding corruption. ‘They will be successful, but not overnight. It is difficult to follow the rule of law, but that is the way to go forward’, he said. ‘We do not have technical expertise. If you need to prosecute you need to evidence’, he said.
