The proposed amendments to the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act will be handed over to Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorala this week, Parliamentarian A H M Fowzie said.
Among the 11-point proposal is to establish the minimum age for marriage as 18, Minister Fowzie said speaking to media. These amendments are expected to resolve issues concerning the legal age for marriage, as established by the Act.
The Parliamentarian also stated that the proposed amendments will be put forward to Parliament after obtaining cabinet approval.
