All departments for second-year students of the Engineering Faculty of the Peradeniya University have been closed down temporarily due to a ragging incident, a spokesman for the university said.
The move came as university authorities tightened measures to prevent ragging in universities.
It is learnt that first-year students were being ragged by second-year Engineering Faculty students, who have now been banned from entering the university by Peradeniya University VC Prof. Upul B. Dissanayake.
The help of the State Intelligence Service has also been sought to prevent ragging.
