The strike launched by the unions of railway engine drivers and rail guards at midnight has been called off a short while ago.
"The general manager of railways had met with representatives of the Railway Engine Drivers Union and had promised to resolve our issues,” Engine Drivers Union Secretary Indika Dodangoda said.
The strike was staged calling on the authorities to develop facilities at the resthouses for railway drivers and to reverse the decision to abolish the duty rosters of employees at these venues.
