Railways General Manager Dilantha Fernando has resigned from his position, Railway Department sources said.
According to sources, Mr. Fernando had handed over his resignation letter to Transport Secretary L.G. Jayampathy yesterday.
The Railways General Manager had reportedly resigned due to undue pressue exerted by the Transport Minister to reinstate a railway officer who had been sacked for violating work rules.
Sources told Times Online that this officer had consumed alcohol during work hours.
