Railways issues ultimatum to striking workers

All casual, assigned and contract railway technical workers who do not report to work by 12 noon today (31) will be treated as having vacated their posts, Sri Lanka Railways said. 

The directive for such workers to report to work has been issued in the backdrop of the ongoing strike launched by railway technical unions. The 48-hour token strike, launched at 4.00pm on Tuesday (29) is due to end at 4.00pm today.]

However, railway unions have said they will decide this afternoon whether to continue with their trade union action as an indefinite strike as the Government has not agreed to their demands as yet.
