Parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratne has been remanded until December 30 in connection to a controversial news conference, a short while ago.
The order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate Shalini Perera upon examining the parliamentarian who is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Narahenpitiya.
The CID, upon the instructions of the Attorney General, arrested Senaratne today (Dec 27) after obtaining an arrest warrant from the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
Senaratne is facing arrest for organising a media briefing attended by two persons which included an individual claiming to be a "white van" driver during alleged abductions before 2015.
An anticipatory bail application filed by the parliamentarian, before the arrest warrant was issued, seeking the prevention of his arrest is set to be heard further on December 30 at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
