The Supreme Court has decided to hear the appeal filed by former DIG Sajin Vaas Gunawardena and six others who are currently serving a life imprisonment, on March 12.
Court today ordered that the High Court verdict which sentenced the suspects to life imprisonment be presented before courts on the said date in order to be examined.
Accordingly, the registrar of the Mahara Magistrates Court was also ordered to be present before the Supreme Court on March 12 in order to submit the documents relating to the accused.
The six suspects were sentenced to death over the murder of businessman Mohamed Shiyam on May 22, 2013.
