School students will be able to obtain their uniform vouchers starting from tomorrow (Jan 8), the Education Ministry said.
The ministry noted that it had spent Rs 2.9 billion this year to print 4.2 million uniform vouchers which have been distributed across all schools island-wide.
Voucher values range between Rs 440 and Rs 1,800 based on the grade of the students.
Meanwhile, students of low-incoming earning families and also enrolled at schools which have less than 100 pupils, have been granted vouchers to purchase shoes, in addition to the uniform vouches.
Accordingly, 4,690 selected schools have received 700,000 vouchers this year, costing the government Rs 958 million.
School uniform vouchers for the new academic year had not been distributed in December last year citing lack of time after the new government came into power.
