At least six inmates and an officer of the Welikada Prison have tested positive for COVID-19 virus, a senior official from the Department of Prisons said.
Assistant Prisons Commissioner Chandana Ekanayake told local media today the detainees were sent to Welikanda Hospital for treatment and the officer was sent to IDH Hospital.
He further said that all the prisoners associated with those who tested positive for COVID-19 will be referred for PCR tests shortly.
